Don’t Just Toss Your Old Computer Or Cellphone
by February 2001 Journal of the Thousand Oaks Computer Club http://topcc.org/ - March 26, 2001 at 19:48:39:
If you unwrapped a new computer or cell phone this holiday season, think twice before putting your old one in the trash. Plenty of nonprofit groups can put it to use, and you can earn a tax deduction for its value. The Computers for Schools Association (www.pcsforschools.org) and the Na-tional Cristina Foundation (www.cristina.org) focus on matching donated PCs to requests from organi-zations that need computers. You can also refer to the PEP National Directory of Computer Recycling Programs at (www.microweb.com/pepsite) for a list of computer recycling and reuse programs in your state. Want to put an old cell phone to good use? Donate a Phone (www.donateaphone.com) collects phones, programs them to call 911 and the number of a local shelter and distributes them to victims of domes-tic violence.
