Earthquake Maps

by by Ted Williams, NOCCC - June 18, 2001 at 20:41:21:

Did you know that Southern California experiences hundreds of earthquakes each week? If you are wondering where the earthquakes occur, the magnitude of recent earthquakes, or how large an area was affected by an earthquake, there are several good sources of information:

• Oraange County Register—A seismographic map is published on the back page of the Local section of the Sunday newspaper.

• www.trinet.org/shake/—Lists recent earthquakes. Select “Most Recent Map” to view a map of recent earthquakes in this area.

• pasadena.wr.usgs.gov/recenteqs/—Select “Southern California” just below the map to see a map of the more significant earthquakes in this area.

• pasadena.wr.usgs.gov/shake/ciim_socal.html—Shows a list of recent and historic earthquakes. Select one of these earthquakes to see an intensity map showing the regional effect of the earthquake. Select the “Related Links” tab at the www.trinet.org/shake/ for links to many other related web sites.
