The Hardware SIG topic for October 1, 2000 was CD-ROM/R/RW write-formats, media, and disc copying. Understanding some of the basic ways of putting data out to disk is essential to getting the most out of your CD-R/RW drive. It doesn’t make too much sense for me to rehash the FAQs.(frequently asked questions) For starters, try the Primer on CD-R at http://www.mrichter. com/cdr/welcome.htm. And, of course, the reference work is Andy McFadden’s CD-Recordable FAQ at http://www. fadden.com/cdrfaq/ Okay, the first URL changed since that October meeting and someone at the meeting gave me the wrong URL for the second one.
I have spent my time writing about how to buy software at a discount by taking advantage of your student status. Academic software is often much less expensive than retail version of the same packages. Read my article elsewhere in this issue of the Orange Bytes. It should be called It’s All Academic (Software).
Everyone should give their thanks to our hardworking editors, Alan Lynn and Jim Karsjens.
