Jeff Levy did his KFI Computer Radio Talk show from our NOCCC SIG this month! Fantastic! His show reaches over 400,000 people on Sunday mornings from 9-12. It was great! Our members submitted questions to Jeff that he answered in addition to his phone callers. Jeff gave us a quick update on what was happening, such as IBM announcing a new three pound computer with an eight hour battery, Apple having a 52 % drop in stock value due to lower earnings, etc.Jeff mentioned Bigzoo.com that lets you have 3.6 cents per minute phone calls using a local access numbers or using the 888 number which is 3.9 cents.
The trivia that Jeff Levy asked us, “What does FI stand for in KFI?” It is Farm Information, since it was started years and years ago.
Another site Jeff mentioned was www.connectpro.com, for a $29.95 switch to add a second Hewlett Packard printer. Seems that HP printers do not like printer switch boxes, but this one will work.
In the cable versus DSL battle, Jeff mentioned that both were good, but usually cable was faster. Either way, he suggested not signing a long contract. We live in a very dynamic world, and things will change.
A caller who needed a low-end notebook had Jeff recommending Fujitsu or Winbook notebooks. Another called asked how to convert Mac word files to the PC format. Check out Dataviz.com (Conversions Plus) for a MAC to PC file converter. A heat problem solution was suggested to be by a fan at 2coolpc.com.
A few comments were made about not yet upgrading to Windows ME. It seems many programs such as Norton, and Quicken do not yet work with it. Jeff recommended waiting for another month for Microsoft and the other vendors to get the bugs out of the program.
Many people were taking notes and just generally enjoying seeing a live radio show being broadcast, as well as being the “clappers” each time Jeff came back on the air. Everyone learned some-thing from all the questions the viewers had.
