Java is an object-oriented programming language developed by SUN. It has similarities to C++, but it is well behaved. Modern web browsers will run Java applets that you come across while surfing the web. Java code is downloaded to your computer and runs in a “sand-box” environment that limits what the program can access. Because it runs in a protected environment, it cannot view your files or damage your system. A common use is to highlight buttons as you move your mouse around the screen without clicking.Symantec wrote one of the first compilers for Java and called it Cafe. Visual Cafe’ is an improved development system that has an integrated editor, compiler and debugger. The system includes “wizards,” utilities and a library of over 100 Java Beans with source code that help you get started learning while writing your own applications. A minimum amount of documentation comes on the CDROM, so I would recommend that you also purchase one of the many good beginning books on the Java language.
Visual Cafe’ Standard Edition V3 has a street price of $90.
