Rescued By Java

Rescued by Java assumes that you have never programmed before and teaches you how to program using the JAVA object-oriented language. The book starts with simple examples that will display a sentence on the screen and introduces programming concepts in short chapters. The first ten chapters cover basic programming concepts such as variables, loops, and functions. Short applets are used to display program outputs.

Chapters 11 through 20 discuss object-oriented principles such as classes, constructors, interacting with html (hypertext markup language) and simple graphics.

Chapters 21 through 37 get into advanced concepts such as catching errors, inheritance, mouse operations, dialog boxes, frames and Java Beans.

While the examples in the book are written using a command line interface that will work on any operating system, the book includes a CD Rom that has software for Microsoft Windows. It also includes Borland’s JBuilder Development Environment and Sun’s Java 2 software development kit Standard Edition, version 2.0. Source code for each sample program is also on the CD.

Experienced programmers who wish to learn Java will also find this book useful.
