This book is intended for those who want to take the Microsoft FrontPage 98 certification exam, number 70-055. Passing the exam qualifies you as a Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP.) You also earn credit toward MCP+SB (Site Builder.) Although this book is intended as a training manual, it also makes a good reference guide.Microsoft FrontPage includes server extensions that make it easy to perform many aspects of web development. So, before you can use the book you must make sure you have installed the FrontPage extensions. It is also assumed that you are an experienced FrontPage 98 user. This book is intended for someone with experience in FrontPage 98.
Almost all of the books that train you for some type of computer technology certification are similar in their approach. Each chapter covers a particular section of the certification exam. At the end of each chapter are review questions with answers. There are also small Study Breaks where you perform the actual tasks in FrontPage 98 that are presented as simulation questions in the Microsoft exam. Also included is a CD with additional test material.
Microsoft puts their emphasis on the corporate environment with its exams. Because the book is designed to get you to pass the exam, emphasis is placed on the subjects that are in the exam and less on the other areas of FrontPage 98. Therefore, subjects such as web site evaluation (both technical and business,) site development and maintenance are covered. While less attention is given to site design (look and feel.) Designing input forms and using proper fields within forms is covered as well as saving the data from a form for later use in a database.
The author of this book has a web site where additional resources are available. I recommend that you visit this site. The address is: http://www.ppinet.com/FrontPage.htm.
I should note that while I have FrontPage 2000 installed I still found the book to be very helpful. When I started studying for the exam this was the only book available for FrontPage 98. Now there are others, which are available. There are no books available for FrontPage 2000. Also, as of August, 2000, Microsoft has not listed an exam for FrontPage 2000. To check on available Microsoft exams visit http://www.microsoft.com/train_cert.
Using all the resources provided by the book, the CD, and the web site, you should be able to pass the exam.
