Free Phone-to-Phone Long Distance Calls

by By James C. Smith—NOCCC www.Reflexive.Net/james/, JamesCSmith@BigFoot.com - March 18, 2000 at 03:24:38:

I-Link is offering free long-distance calls when you visit their web page. Unlike some other Internet phone programs, this site allows you to make a call to any phone number in the U.S. and lets you talk on your phone. You do not need to talk through your PC microphone and speakers or a PC headset. Just go to www.i-link.com. The web page will ask you for your phone number and the number of the person you are calling. When you press the call button, your phone will ring and you will be connected to the person you are calling. After three minutes, you will have to click on a button on the web page to continue your call. James C. Smith demonstrated this at the February IBM SIG by making a free long distance call to a member’s cell phone. The I-link service is currently being tested. Eventually it will be used on several Internet portal sites and will be supported by advertising. I-Link is able to connect your phone to any other phone in the U.S. inexpensively by routing your phone call over the Internet. The small costs that they have are offset by advertising revenue. You can get more information by reading the press release at www.i-link.com.
