For several years, my partners and I have been developing two PC video games and the engine used to power them both. Each month many fellow NOCCC members have asked me how the projects are progressing. For two years I have had to explain how long it takes to make a video game that meets today’s demanding standard. I am proud and relieved to report that the first of the two games finally made it through the last stages of the development, production, and distribution processes. On May 20th Star Trek Away Team will arrive on the shelves in stores all over the world. Star Trek Away Team is the first squad-based strategy game based in the Star Trek Next Generation universe. In Away Team, you’ll have the opportunity to form your own strike teams from seventeen different characters, all with their own special skills and weapons. With an epic storyline that spans the Star Trek galaxy, you’ll take your team on away missions to dangerous locations and inhospitable planets, like the Romulan home world, the Klingon home world, and Borg Cubes! Away Team is developed by Reflexive Entertainment and published by Activision with a licensed from Paramount. You can get more information from www.STAwayTeam.com including an Away Team screen saver, desktop wallpaper, and a limited free demo version of Away Team. The full retail version of Away Team is available in any store that sells PC Games for about $35 to $40.
Zax – The Alien Hunter is the other game we are developing using the same game engine used to create Away Team. Zax will be published in July by JoWooD Productions.
At the June NOCCC meeting, I will be demonstrating Star Trek Away Team. First, we will get to see the game play from a users perspective and then we will peek under the hood and show how some of the parts were developed.
