Computer Essentials SIG

The Computer Essentials SIG (special interest group) will introduce you to the world of computing. You’ll learn to sit, crawl, stand, walk, and run a computer with confidence. You’ll start at the beginning, continue until you reach the end, and, then, stop.

Each monthly session will introduce the essentials of using a computer. Over the course of our meetings, you’ll learn the correct way to use a mouse and keyboard, text editing, word processing, file management, anti-virus scanners, spreadsheets, taking care of you computer, fonts, web browsing, newsgroups (UseNet), printing, scanning, file formats, and much more.

Please e-mail computeressentialssig@noccc.org if you plan to attend. Please include a little information about yourself, such as your computer experience, what kind of computer you use, what operating system you use, and any other information that might be of interest to you. Tell your friends, too!

Photography Technology Evolution, Part II

Gregory A. Rager is a free-lance photographer (1980) and active practitioner of 19th Century Processes (1984), Greg uses cameras ranging from the medium format Hasselblad to vintage 12x20 inch field cameras... and everything in between! During this time, he has lectured on the history of photography and related processes at California State University (Long Beach), Cypress College, Photography Clubs, Historical Societies, and the Sierra Club. He lectured for six years on fine art processes, printing processes, photographic processes at the Los Angeles and New York International Art Expositions... and in July, 2001 became an International Presenter of Historical Processes during a trip to Australia!

In addition to being an instructor in Historical Photographic Processes, Photo-graphics, Wedding, Zone System, and Basic photography courses at Cypress College, Cypress, California and at Mount San Antonio College (Mt. SAC), Walnut, California. Greg has worked on conservation of vintage images and digital restoration for the National Park Service, Death Valley, California and Mill Valley Friends of the Library, Mill Valley. He holds a Lifetime College Teaching Credential, a University Certificate in Technical Writing, and a Master’s Degree in Technology Education from California State University, Long Beach.

Main Operational Concepts Behind Modern Crytography

Industry icon Steve Gibson (author of Spinrite and Shields-Up, former-columnist for InfoWorld, etc.), Gibson Research Corp. (http://wwww.grc.com), will make another exciting presentation to our Main Meeting audience.
Steve plans on detailing private key, public key, secure hashing, digital document signing, cryptographic random numbers ... and all that.
