NOCCC
Electronic Waste Collection Day

The use and abuse of personal computers has created a tremendous problem. How is computer equipment to be properly disposed so that the hazardous substances (such as lead, nickel, mercury, beryllium, cadmium, chromium, and zinc) do not contaminate the environment?
NOCCC has the solution!
For one day, we will give members an opportunity to safely recycle their useless equipment.
Products may include televisions, monitors (CRT, LCD, and plasma), laptop computers, PDAs, VCRs, printers, cell phones, desktop computers, calculators, and audio-video equipment. Each item must be in a safe to handle condition (no broken glass, no foreign toxic chemicals, no dangerous condition).
Bring these items to the Sunday meeting (from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.). Go to the Chapman University Hashinger Science Center parking lot.
Not all items are acceptable. Talk to the NOCCC volunteers about what items will be taken. Do not leave any items in the parking lot unless instructed to do so.
NOCCC reserves the right to refuse any and all items.

Casual Games for all ages from Reflexive Entertainment

People of all ages and all walks of life are finding that "casual" computer games can be fun and relaxing. Games like Solitaire, Mahjong , Wheel of Fortune, and Bejeweled have been popular for years as "coffee break" games.

The new generation of casual games includes Dinner Dash, Mystery Case Files (MCF) and Sallies Salon. You may be surprised to hear that casual game web sites are visited primarily by people over the age of 30 and about 70% of the players are women. The truth is, almost everyone enjoys playing computer game and with 5 new games released each week there is a game that is right for everyone.

James C. Smith is a co-founder of Reflexive Entertainment and long time member of NOCCC. Reflexive has been making games for 10 years and now has a catalog of over 1,000 games available for download at Reflexive.com. All the games are free to download and try for 60 minutes and then cost about $20 to purchase. NOCCC members can use the discount code [available at the meeting] at the time of purchase to receive a 25% discount.

On Sunday James will demonstrate some of the most popular casual games available at Reflexive.com and show a preview of some new games in development.

Reflexive is always looking for volunteers to help test games. You can contact James@Reflexive.net to sign up. The most pressing need is for 'usability' testers who are willing to visit the Reflexive office in Lake Forest, California and test a game for 50 minutes while the develops observe.

Presented by James Smith, Reflexive Entertainment (www.reflexive.com).
