General Meetings
New Technology (9:30 a.m. in Irvine Hall)
Microprocessor Architecture - Second In A Series
The brain of a personal computer is the microprocessor.  Starting at the beginning with basic operation and finishing with state of the art optimizations, there's something for everyone to learn.
Everyone has heard of bits and bytes, but most don't know how they are used by the microprocessor as data and instructions.  Next, how optimizations improve efficiency. Finally, a little about hardware design and a look forward to July's topic of Motherboard Support Chipsets - Third In A Series.
Presented by Herbert Wong, Jr., NOCCC Hardware SIG Leader.
Presentation coordinator: George Margolin (inventor@pobox.com)
Main Meeting (1:00 p.m. in Irvine Hall)
Maps and Geography in the Computer Age
Tracy Lenocker will be speaking about map making in the digital age and the use of Geographical Information Systems (GIS). This technology is used to make Thomas Brothers Maps, National Geographics maps, quad sheets for hiking and camping, and the maps you see in the newspapers during our recent conflict. It is also used in automobiles to give driving directions.
He will cover how the information is collected from land surveys, GPS receivers, and aerial photogrammetry to form base maps and other features.
Tracy will them show many examples, some familar and others not, of local maps, including 3D displays.
